Who put that lake here?

Credit goes to a glacier that passed through about 12,000 years ago. After it dug out the lake basin, the glacier left the rest of us with a beautiful body of water—and gave the city its heart. Today, South Lake Union draws residents in pursuit of play both on its shores and in its waters. Parks, walkways, and green spaces are everywhere; so are kayaks, paddleboards, and sailboats. You won’t even have to leave the building to see many of the iconic sights the lake has to offer, such as seaplanes taking off and the annual Fourth of July fireworks display.

Doesn’t hurt that the neighborhood is exceptionally walkable and pedestrian-friendly. That makes it all the better for those who’d rather ditch the car and discover the neighborhood on foot. Actually, that’s the best way to enjoy South Lake Union.

Hey now, you’re a walk star.

A car? Who needs one here when you have your two feet and comfortable walking shoes? South Lake Union has earned its bona fides: Walk Score® gave our neighborhood a score of 99, calling it a walker’s paradise. You’ll agree during easy strolls to restaurants, grocery stores, bars, shops, farmers markets, and the bus and streetcar lines.

Here’s a fun challenge: Set your watch and walk 10 minutes from Mirabella’s front door. You’ll reach Denny Park, Whole Foods, Cascade Park Community Gardens, Sephora, Amazon Go convenience store, and—this being Seattle, after all—no fewer than 13 coffee shops.
